Holy cow, an entire year without any blog posts. Might have to step that up!
In spite of that, work has continued unabated. I left the U.S. for a break from that scene, moving back to Canada with my family. I have been working on Overworld full time for a couple of months now. It’s loaded into an Android APK and ready to hit the play store once we pull together a few more things. Changes off the top of my head:
- At least a dozen new characters (up to 35)
- New menu system and unlock progression
- Sounds and music
- New compass system
- New “dark” tileset and NPCs
And of course tons of new items, beasts, balance changes, and bug fixes.

If this goes well, I have a ton of future plans for this game engine. Enough, I hope, to build a business around. I’ll be at it for several more months trying to figure out if it’s long-term viable or not. If it is, funding. If not, it was a terrific ride and back to the grind of working for others I guess! That’s going to be a hard pill to swallow, but I’ll do it for my girls.
