Moving and exploring

Tapping to move

Tap an empty tile next to the hero to move there. After the hero has moved every other creature gets a turn. Tap yourself to stay still and rest.

Tap a tile with an enemy on it to attack. Tap a tame beast's tile to swap places or to mount it. Tap an NPC to talk.

Struggling

Some terrain is a struggle. It takes more than one tap to enter. Hills take two taps to climb. The swamp takes two taps to escape. Tap the same tile again to keep struggling. Fliers never struggle. Some terrain cannot be entered at all. The terrain page has the rules for every tile.

Armor makes struggling worse and heavy armor can drown you in water. Boots and rope let you climb hills quickly and even mountains.

Fog

Unexplored areas show as a fuzzy border at the edge of the map. Walk into them and new tiles are revealed. Beasts enter the map from unexplored territory so the edge is where trouble comes from.

Exploring outside triggers new quests. Dark tiles at the edge of the outside world are where quests begin.

Flying

Some heroes fly and so do many beasts. A bird icon shows flight. Fliers cross any terrain without struggling and cannot be attacked by grounded creatures.

Fliers land when they interact with others or enter buildings. Attacking makes you land. It takes a move to get airborne again. A ground creature moving onto a flier's tile bumps the flier to a nearby tile.

Some fliers prefer to walk and only take off when they must.

Riding

Tame beasts can be ridden. Horses are the common steed but you may find others. Only beasts the same size or larger than the hero can be ridden. Tap a tame beast to see if you can mount it.

A steed moves for the rider and holds them out of the water so scrolls stay dry. The steed absorbs all combat damage and spell damage and contact effects meant for the rider. Heat and drowning still affect both of you.

Some heroes are naturally mounted. Their animal body counts as a steed. Lances work from the saddle.

Tame beasts

Beasts can be tamed with food they like. Don't attack a beast you want to tame. Once attacked it cannot be tamed with food anymore.

Tame beasts try to follow the hero. If the hero moves onto their tile they swap places. Tame beasts attack enemies that have attacked the hero before.

Escaping and exploring in mazes

Caves and other maze-like areas have two special actions in the action menu. Escape takes you back to the entrance if you are stuck in a dead end. Explore does the opposite and teleports you somewhere random inside the area.

Entering buildings

Walk onto a doorway and use enter from the action menu. Enter another area to hide from enemies and rest. Enemies still know where you are.
