Places

There are many kinds of tile on the map. Some lead to other areas. Enter another area to hide from enemies and rest. The terrain page lists every tile. These are the ones that matter most.

Terrain

  • Grass is quite safe. It may hide beasts that strike at the hero but less often than forests. Pastoral heroes like the centaur can rest on grass.
  • Forest adds to Shields if you are not flying. Forests often hide beasts and bumping into one by accident gets you struck. Use glasses to see hidden things.
  • Hill takes two taps to climb. Once you are up enemies must also struggle up to attack. Boots or rope let you climb quickly. Fliers never struggle.
  • Mountain can only be climbed by special heroes or with rope or boots. Goats call the mountains home. Fliers cross them easily.
  • Desert is very hot. Most creatures take heat damage after 3 turns. Some items cool you. Armor makes it worse.
  • Swamp is sticky. All but swamp-loving beasts like frogs take two taps to escape.
  • Water is challenging. Many creatures live in it and cannot leave it. In caves water drowns land creatures. All water drowns a hero in heavy armor. Water destroys scrolls. Even the ones you hold.

Caves

Caves lead deep into the earth with stairs going down forever. The deeper you go the greater the danger and the rewards. All caves contain coins. Beware cave water as it can drown you.

In caves and other maze-like areas you can escape to the entrance from the action menu if you get stuck in a dead end. Explore does the opposite and teleports you somewhere random inside.

The level meter rises slowly in caves so you have more time to explore. Some heroes love the dark and get even more. Others dislike going underground and lose the bonus. Quests do not start in caves so head up soon.

Shops

There are three kinds of shop where you can spend coins. Shells and gems can be used to barter. Some heroes are banned from stores or terrify the shopkeeper away.

  • Shops sell items. The shopkeeper waves a hearty welcome. Tap any item to buy.
  • Libraries sell admission rather than scrolls. Get past the librarian by paying coins or with a ring. The scrolls are inside.
  • Inns sell bread and horses to ride. They have a special bed that pauses the level meter and heals your steed. Give the horses something they like and you can ride them.

After buying an item talk to the shopkeeper to replenish the stock. You can only do this a limited number of times. A shop with nothing new shows a zzz icon. Heroes with a fishing rod can steal items.

Huts

Huts are home to humans. A human or a pet hides in every doorway. Family and other animals are inside and belongings are strewn about. Some huts have treasure and locked rooms. Some have a bed.

Other places

The castle and its gauntlet. The temple. The blacksmith. Grandma's house. The treehouse. The mansion. Most of these belong to a quest and are described there.
