Inventory
The hero's inventory shows the items carried. It sits below the map and has six slots. From left to right:
Most heroes carry one of each type and up to three coins. Some can stack a certain type such as scrolls. Some cannot hold certain types at all. Anything a hero cannot hold is dropped next turn. Items that a hero cannot use only appear in chests once per game.
Using the inventory
- A gold border means you can use or eat the item. Tap it to open the action menu.
- A green border or a hand means there is something on the floor to pick up for this slot. Tap to pick it up.
- Tap a held item that cannot be used to drop it.
- Tap the last button for other actions such as rest and enter building. Special hero moves live here too.
The six slots
Active items
Food and keys and potions and anything else you hold in your hands. Many can be activated by tapping them. Food is eaten to restore hearts. Not everything works by itself. A key opens a door but does nothing on its own.
Weapons
Most weapons increase attack strength so you do more damage in combat. Some have a special effect like pushing the enemy back or stunning them. Some cleave several enemies in one hit. Chests always contain a weapon if you need one.
Armor
Most armor adds Shields against attacks. Some provides camouflage in certain terrain. Many heroes cannot wear armor at all and may use the slot for something else.
Armor has costs. Most of it makes you overheat faster in the desert. It makes you struggle over hard terrain and take more fall damage. Swimming is slow and heavy armor can drown you.
Tools
Each tool does something different. Some improve movement or reveal hidden things. Some improve attack or defense. Several let you swat tiny beasts instantly. Some heroes cannot use tools.
Scrolls
Scrolls cast a magic spell on nearby tiles and are used up. Some heroes cast weak spells. Some cannot read but can still carry scrolls. Scrolls that get wet are destroyed. Even the ones you are holding.
Coins
Coins buy things in shops. Most heroes can carry three. Plenty can be found in caves and other underground places. Even heroes that cannot enter shops find coins useful for distracting thieves.
Items on the ground
Items appear on the map and in creatures' inventories. They are sold in shops and hidden in chests and dropped as loot by defeated beasts.
There can only be one item on a tile. If a second is dropped on top the first is destroyed. Items dropped in water are lost.
